Did You Know?

He was a court favorite of Emperor Constantine and leaned toward Arianism (heresy) before accepting Nicaea.

Theological Warning

Not a Saint

Arian Sympathizer. He was a court politician who loved Emperor Constantine. He tried to compromise with the Arians (who denied Jesus was fully God) to keep the peace. He eventually signed the Nicene Creed, but his heart was never fully in it.

Status: Not a Saint (in the West). He is respected as a historian, but not trusted as a theologian.
